Driving Park Youth Baseball Rules Quick Summary

 

T-Ball

  1. All Games are on strict Time limits of 1hr 5mins and/or 2 Innings.
  2. Everyone must bat and once everyone bats the inning is over.
  3. Start of the 2nd inning 3 outs will end the inning.
  4. No strike outs. Player will swing until he or she hits the ball.
    1. If needed the coach may assist.  
  5. No bunts and ball must be 10-12 ft from the tee base to be considered a hit.
  6. If the ball is caught, runners on base must wait until ball is caught before running to the next base. (Tag-ups)
  7. There are no steals
  8. Runners must stop running and only advance to the next base if past half zone or back to previous base once the ball is in the pitcher hand raised and they are on the pitcher’s mound within the circle. If the infielder (not outfielder) makes a play on the ball and enters the mound circle and hand is raised the runners must stop running and return or advance to the previous base depending of where they are in relation the half zone.
  9. If the runner is less than halfway between the next base when the ball is in the pitchers hand and on the mound, the runner must go back to the previous base. But if the runner is more than half way then they advance to the next base.
  10. Pitcher gives or throws the ball to the catcher and they place ball on tee. Catcher must wear a helmet with mask.
  11. Soft t-balls, t-ball bats are used and everyone must wear a helmet when batting.
  12. Coaches and team parent volunteers are encouraged to be on the field with team as necessary.
  13. Depending on team rosters, teams can play with 8,9,10 or 11 in the field. When that number is agreed upon by both teams, they must play with the same number for field play.
  14. Coaches umpire their games.
  15. If a team is short players then the opposing team will provide players from their teams if agreed upon.
  16. No Score is kept.
  17. All must line up and shake hands when game is over as proper sportsmanship.
  18. Parents are to conduct themselves with respect for themselves and others because we are roll models for our youth.

* Ages are usually from 4-7 and can be 8 if turned 8 after May 1st and skill level needs development.

*It is important to remember that our main objective is for all children to have fun and learn some basic baseball fundamentals through instruction.

 

Coach Pitch

  1. All games are on strict time limits of 1hr 20 mins and/or 5 Innings.
  2. The team’s at bat their coach will pitch to their team.
  3. Pitches can be over or under hand pitched.
  4. The coach can only pitch 7 pitches, if no hit occurs they are out.
  5. Innings will end with 3 outs and/or with a maximum of 9 batters per inning.
  6. Runners must stop running and only advance to the next base once the ball is in the pitcher hand raised, if they are on the pitcher’s mound in the middle of the circle.
  7. There are no steals.
  8. No bunts and ball must be 20 ft. from home plate to be considered a hit.
  9. If the ball is caught, runners on base must wait until ball is caught before running to the next base. (Tag-ups)
  10. If the runner is less than halfway between the next base when the ball is in the pitchers hand the must go back to the previous base. But if the runner is more than half way then they advance to the next base.
  11. Play is conducted with a soft tee-ball.
  12. Everyone must wear a helmet when batting.
  13. Catcher must wear a helmet with mask.

Majors

  1. All Games are on strict Time limits of 1hr 30mins and/or 6 Innings.
  2. No new inning will begin if there is five minutes or less remaining in the game regardless of score. However, any inning which has been started prior to the five minute cutoff time limit will be completed unless the home team is winning.
    1. Umpires will need to be aware of the five minute cutoff time limit and communicate that to the coaches as it approaches during the game. Coaches are also responsible to inform umpires.
  3. Mercy Rule: After the 3rd inning if there is a 15 point difference and/or 10 point difference after the 4th inning game is over.
  4. Youth Pitcher Play
  5. Reset Rule: Once the pitcher has the ball and is on the pitching rubber the opposing team must be on base not leading off.
  6. No adding participants to team roster after week 2 and rosters must be turned in or games played will be forfeits.
  7. Steals allowed- If the ball cross home plate.
  8. Secondary Lead-off will be 4 feet from base at the designated marker. Player will not be allowed past marker unless attempting to steal bases. 1st offense is an automatic out.
  9. Slides are always feet first or they will be disqualified for 1st offense the remainder of the game.
  10. No Bunts allowed and Bat throwing the batter is out disqualified for 2nd offense.
  11. If the ball is caught, runners on base must wait until ball is caught before running to the next base. (Tag-ups)
  12. If foul ball is in the glove of catcher on third strike it is an out.
  13. Three outs end the inning.
  14. Play is conducted with a regular baseball.
  15. Everyone must wear a helmet when batting and on base.
  16. Catchers must wear catchers equipment and if needed will be provided.
  17. Teams will play with 9 in the field.
  18. If a team has less than 8 players then the opposing team will provide players from their teams if agreed upon and it will be a forfeit. It will be a loss if the opposing team is not present within 15mins after the scheduled game time. Game can begin with 8 players but it is an automatic out every 9th batter.
  19. An umpire will be used in games.
  20. Score is kept.
  21. Coaches must inform the opposing team of their batting line-up. Score sheet will be provided. Batting out of order will result in an automatic out. Everyone must Bat.
  22. On third strike and catcher drops the ball runner can attempt advance to first base if it is unoccupied and the opposing team could attempt an out upon the runner unless its two outs. If the runner is on first it is occupied no matter if the attempt a steal.
  23. All must line up and shake hands when game is over as proper sportsmanship.
  24. Parents are to conduct themselves with respect for themselves and others because we are roll models for our youth. 0 tolerances for negative behavior. Parents could be asked to leave if behavior is disruptive.
  25. Birth Certificates ,CareSource or Molina Cards: If a player’s age is question by opposing team then the team in question must provide documentation by the next game played by that team.

* Ages are usually from 10-13 and can be 14 if turned 14 after May 1st.

Girls Softball Rules
11-14 Intermediate Fast Pitch Division
Age as of May 1

The league will follow National Software Association girls’ softball rules (www.playnsa.com) with the following modifications.

  1. All players present will be in the batting order.  Any players arriving late will be placed at the end of the batting order.  Teams must use helmets with facemasks provided by the park.  They will be collected at your last game of the season.
  1. Games will be played to 6 innings or 1 hour 10 minutes from the scheduled starting time.  No new inning can start after one hour of the game has been played.
  1. It is always the responsibility of the offensive player to avoid collision while running the bases.  (It is the responsibility of the umpire to call interference.)
  1. All bats must be official softball bats.  No hit sticks permitted in park.
  1. No stealing of any base will be allowed.  No leading off.
  1. No advancing to first base on a dropped third strike.
  1. Catchers must wear catchers equipment (shin guards, catchers mask with helmet, and chest protector.)
  1. Pitching distance will be 36 feet.
  1. Each half inning will end after three outs are attained or 8 runs are scored.  The half inning end once the 8th run has crossed the plate.
  1. The 10 run rule will be in effect after the completion of 4 innings.  (If the home team is winning by 10 runs after 3 ½ innings they will bat in the bottom of the inning.)
  1. No chatter towards the opposing team.  Players may chatter to their own players only.
  1. Pitchers may use the windmill fast pitch style windup or a regular slow pitch wind up.
  1. Teams can play with 10 fielders if enough players are present.  The 10th player must be fourth outfielder.
